Voters Deserve Answers
ProChoice San Mateo County was formed to bring visibility and education to voters. Voters deserve to know their candidates’ positions on abortion, so we can make informed decisions about our elected leaders.
The decisions we make in San Mateo County in the November election directly and immediately impact our communities. Local races also shape our future state and national representation for generations. Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, leader of the AFL-CIO said it best, "State legislators start off as school board members, city council members, county supervisors…No matter what office they’re running for, every candidate in California should be asked their position on Roe & abortion rights."
With many new districts up for election, there are over 100 candidates running for congress, assembly, board of supervisors, city councils, school districts, and special districts. All of the San Mateo County candidates were contacted with a simple questionnaire to bring transparency about their position on Prop 1 and to describe their commitment to protecting the right to abortion access for women, girls, and people with uteruses - and those who love them.
ProChoice San Mateo County is a growing multigenerational, multifaith coalition of leaders and community members. Many of us are still mourning the overturning of Roe v Wade. We’ve crossed paths at rallies and cried, and still we know this fight is not over. We feel a responsibility to meet this moment by centering our reproductive rights in the November election at the local level right here in San Mateo County.
Please join us to shine the light on reproductive rights for 423,601 registered voters in San Mateo County.
